Getting used to the rhythms of Spain

To be determined Feb. 10, 2023
Hola everyone.  Welcome back to another description of my week in Spain. Whether or not you all want to read it is up to you.
Nothing much has happened to me this week besides classes and me being sick. My illness wasn’t bad, I just couldn’t eat anything or do a whole lot for a few days because nothing stayed down. I made the mistake of going to class one day: That was awful. While being sick in Spain wasn’t fun, my host mom and dad were super sweet, making me tea and asking how I was doing. I felt bad because my host mom would make me food that I couldn’t eat. Sadly enough, my first real meal after that was McDonald’s, but familiar food was nice after feeling unwell. Fortunately  I’m good now, so I’ve moved on.
My classes have been fun, too. I am taking five psychology classes and I enjoy each of them. I was supposed to take two journalism classes through another Spanish university here, but it did not fit into my schedule to travel there and back, so I switched to a schedule that keeps me in one place. I learned today that pirates might have worn an eyepatch not because they didn’t have an eye, but so that when they went below deck, they would already have an eye adjusted to the dark. What’s nice about taking classes in Spain is that they purposely make it easier and don’t give us homework so that we can enjoy our time on a new continent. While having no homework has been nice, sometimes I don’t really know what to do with myself. I end up alternating between reading and watching Family Guy when I’m not with my friends.
Last week I got the urge to get my ear pierced and that Friday, I walked out with a new helix piercing, which cost me only fifteen euros. When I told my host mom I was getting my ear pierced, she told me to be careful because she had a student do that previously and had to take her to the hospital because it became infected. Luckily, mine is fine.
Besides impulsive piercings, I’ve gotten more into the rhythm of Spain. Late lunches and dinners, social events, and going out on the weekends. It’s been fun.
Take this week for example. On Wednesday I will have gone out to a club where they give salsa lessons early in the night (around eleven) and then from twelve to one, there are free drinks while you salsa the night away. This weekend we are going to Toledo, Spain for a day trip and then just to relax and enjoy Madrid and Europe.
