Just kidding, I do eat, sleep and go to the gym

Is it really already March? February felt like March.
I talked with a professor today about spring and fall breaks at University: She commented about how the energy of students is different before and after breaks, but also depending on weather. She said students tend to lose focus when the weather gets nicer, but that students become more focused when it is cold, for example towards the end of fall semester or beginning of spring semester. As a student myself, I can verify her observations.
The warm weather recently has been incredibly enticing. My friends and I took a walk the other day when it was sixty degrees down to the stinky Mississippi where we did more standing around than walking. It was a pretty area though, and we even got to see the rowing team row by on the river while they were practicing.
But then it became cold again, throwing off the fun, spring mindset. Oh well, I guess it just means I will be focusing more on school, which I should be doing anyway.
This semester has been tricking me. My school calendar shows I have little going on, not a lot of homework to do. But then the next thing I know, I’m swamped with work and do not have time for anything else. I barely eat, barely sleep, and haven’t gone to the gym in days. I’m just kidding, it’s not that bad. I do eat, I do sleep and I went to the gym yesterday.
On top of homework, I have to now start thinking about thesis work for next year, because I decided to stay in an honors program–which means I must write a thesis. But that’s next school year, and I should probably figure out what I’m going to be doing this summer first. I’ve applied to publications and companies here and there, but nobody wants to make any decisions until later, so here I sit waiting to hear my future like someone who’s getting her palms read. Just tell me already.
Anyway, I know I talked about spring break last week, but I am really looking forward to getting some sleep and being able to read for leisure. I am in the middle of reading four different books at the moment, along with following the story lines of four different television shows. There’s just no time for anything anymore.
In my global communications class, we learned about the beginning of clocks and how time went from organic (like working only when the sun was out) to mechanical. The invention of the clock is the reason the world is so fast-paced: we began following “man-made” time frames that ignored the changing lengths of the days and the various challenges created by weather. It’s crazy to think about. The pope wanted a way to keep time so that people could be a little more organized and less chaotic and we ended up with assembly lines and a universal sense of urgency. Also fun fact, but the reason we have GPS and can tell where we are longitudinally is because someone set a clock differently. I can’t really explain it because I wasn’t paying close attention, but if anyone’s interested, just look up John Harrison.
