Acknowledge sin and cast it aside

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Somedays you feel like everyone is watching you.  You realize that your actions mean more than you thought they did.  Your influence on your friends and family is greater than you imagined.  There comes a time when you discover that you matter in this world and how you act reflects on you and what you value.

This weight of responsibility rests on your shoulders and requires you to evaluate how your actions affect those around you.  Now we can look at this in two lights, either the light of doing better, or the light of being good.  Being good comes easy to some folks, they just choose to not rock the boat, or cause issues, or draw attention to themselves, or their actions.  Being good deals with the social and emotional interactions that a person has with others and people would say to us that we were nice people.

Doing better is a humbling experience.  You have to admit that you don’t know what you are doing all the time.  You have to recognize that you don’t have it all together and you need help.  You confess that you have failed and are striving to do better.  Doing better recognizes your sin and requires a Savior.

So since people can be watching, acknowledge your sin and cast it aside.  Rid yourself of anything that slows you down in reaching your goal of knowing Christ.  You have this life to live, reach for your goal, your goal of knowing Jesus.

He is at work in your life helping you to do better, helping you to recognize when you have measured up, or when you are getting off course.  He is the one who went to the cross for your sin and He is completing His work on your behalf.  So let go of the sin, the shame, the guilt and pursue Christ in all things.  Your goal is to hug the King, and He has invited you to spend all eternity with Him.

Race for that goal of knowing Christ, forget what people think about you and do better at knowing Christ.  Do better at drawing people to Christ by the difference He has made in you.  Do better at keeping your focus on Christ in all things that you may reveal His love for you and others no matter the circumstances.
