Choir Director Megan Kreinbring brings ‘The Final Cut’ to the PAC

A matinee performance of this year’s Variety Show titled, “The Final Cut” was presented for elementary students on Thursday, May 7 in the Waseca Junior Senior High School Performing Arts Center (PAC). Under the leadership of choir director Megan Kreinbring, the show featured the State Street Singers, the Sextets, the Bluejay Blend and high school students grades 8 through 12.

Students from Hartley Elementary’s first, second and third grade attended, as well as students from Waseca Intermediate School, filled up every seat in the PAC with energetic and excited students. For Thursday’s special show, available only to students, the schedule was reduced to 12 numbers to give the little ones time to see it within the school day. The Friday and Saturday shows featured 23 separate songs as well as a senior slide show.

Emcees introduced each act, supplying humor and getting their own share of the applause. On the program were assorted songs like, “The Time Warp,” “I Don’t Believe in Love,” “When the Party’s Over,” “Danger Zone,” “Ordinary,” and "The Way You Look Tonight.”

The program included numerous costume changes. For “Flashlight” by the State Street Treble Singers, the entire auditorium was darkened, leaving only the screen with lights and each of the dancers on stage with their flashlights. The most popular song among the children was “Ghostbusters.” The beginning of the song involved a ghost chased on stage while being pursued by a Ghostbuster. During the song, Slimer, the popular character from the movies, appeared on the projector screen, leading to screams of delight from the young audience as he flew around looking at everything. The performers on stage didn’t seem to be scared of the green ghost at all.

To wrap things up there was a senior slideshow and the final song, “We’re All in this Together,” which included the entire cast.
