Close ties

Hayden Roslansky, 27, is one of the latest additions to Janesville’s Patton, Hoversten, and Berg (PH&B) law office. 

PH&B has a deep-rooted history in the Waseca, Owatonna, Janesville and Faribault communities. William Patton began practicing law in Waseca in 1948; he formed a partnership with William Hoversten in 1975. The two added Perry Berg (who was hired as an associate attorney for Patton and Hoversten in 1982) as a partner in 1992, thus forming the general practice PH&B law firm known to so many area residents. 

Before becoming a full-fledged attorney, Roslanksy learned much about estate planning and other legal practices by shadowing Hoversten, who has been practicing law for nearly 50 years.

Roslansky grew up in Lake Park, Iowa. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with an emphasis in legal studies from Hamline University in Saint Paul before graduating from the Mitchell Hamline School for Law in 2019.

Earlier in his career, Roslansky worked as an intern and later a law clerk for social security and disability-focused law firms in the Twin Cities area. He also briefly did contract work while studying for the Minnesota Bar exam. 

Upon passing the Bar, Roslansky became a licensed attorney last fall and began working at PH&B shortly after.

After his work in an urban area, newly licensed Roslansky was ready for a change of pace and began looking for job opportunities elsewhere.

“I wanted to find something closer to home, but still far enough away that I was doing my own thing,” said Roslansky.

Currently living in Minneapolis with his girlfriend and two cats, Roslansky plans on moving to Mankato very soon and looks forward to spending more time in Janesville when his work no longer demands such a long commute. 

As an attorney, Roslansky now focuses primarily on estate planning and administration, but in keeping with PH&B’s status as a general practice firm, he is trained and prepared to manage a wide range of tasks.

After about 9 months as a lawyer at PH&B, Roslanksy reports that “it’s been terrific.” In particular, he highlights the great mentorship he’s enjoyed from more experienced attorneys at the firm and engaging in the variety of types of law he’s encountered while working at a general practice firm.

One of the most rewarding parts of Roslansky’s job, he says, is that through estate planning, he is able to preserve the legacy of family farms and other familial properties. His experiences have helped him become acutely aware of the need for future-proof estate planning, especially for families.

“I don’t think it is ever too early to look into an estate planning option,” said Roslanksy, adding that “our door is always open if people are curious.”
