Cornelius elected to second term

Waseca County Attorney Rachel Cornelius gathered at home with a small group of close friends and family as they waited for results to come in Tuesday evening. Cornelius defeated former county attorney Brenda Miller by about 800 votes, 4,297 to 3,503.
“I felt incredibly grateful and proud to be elected to continue as the Waseca County Attorney,” Cornelius told the Pioneer. “Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I am honored to continue the hard and valuable work of the county attorney.
“I have always felt it was my mission to have this office be well respected, professional and approachable,” Cornelius said in her message to voters. “It is important to me to have an office where everyone feels welcome to call us, bounce ideas off of us, and collaborate to make the best outcomes for crime victims, the community and Waseca County.”
Cornelius said she worked hard door knocking, talking to as many people as possible, and attending as many events as she could to spread her message during this campaign season. “I truly feel that the best connections are those made in person. I have always been transparent and approachable so that residents could ask me questions and get answers.”
Cornelius said she would like to continue to pursue projects which make a difference.
