Council looks into allegations of improper payment

During the Aug. 10 meeting of the Waldorf city council, city attorney Christopher Kennedy was asked to review and clarify data center ordinances, which he will present to the council for review. Kennedy was also present because it was brought to his attention there are allegations of improper payments for extra work made to Waldorf public officials that were not approved prior by the council. There was no action taken, but there will be a public hearing and council approved ordinance passed. The Waldorf burger feed will take place Friday, Aug. 21, coinciding with Waldorf Days on Aug. 21, 22 and 23.

 

It was announced that the wi-fi system in the city community center is up and working. The installation of new accessible playground equipment was completed on Wednesday, August 12, with wood chip installation on Sunday. Two recent donations brought the amount of money raised toward the accessible play area to $64,987; fundraising efforts will continue until the overall goal of about $123,000 is reached. 

 

The Waldorf Trex recycling program has been discontinued; residents will need to recycle their plastic elsewhere since there is no longer a drop-off point  at the community center.

 

The next council workshop to discuss tax levy and budget work will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 24..

 

For water/sewer, eight accounts did not pay, 13 accounts made partial payments and eight received shut off notices, $2,738 was not collected.
