Dulas elected Waseca County Sheriff

Waseca County’s Sheriff Elect Jay Dulas waited anxiously with family and friends as a friend watched for the results of last Tuesday’s election to be posted at the county courthouse. “Going tino the night we felt good,” Dulas said of the evening. “I am elated with the results and looking forward to the transition and new challenges that will come with this next chapter in my career.

“I am  truly humbled by the support from Waseca County,” Dulas glowed. “A huge thank you to everyone who supported me and those who were involved in my campaign. I am committed to the people of Waseca County and will continue to lead the sheriff’s office through trust, respect and accountability.” 

As sheriff, Dulas said he plans to continue to work with the people of Waseca to ensure a safe, inviting place for residents to live, work and raise a family. Dulas encouraged Waseca County residents to keep reaching out with questions, comments and concerns. 

What made the difference in this campaign? What led to a blowout win with an almost two-to-one margin? 

“Throughout this journey, I ran a positive campaign,” Dulas answered. “I feel that my work ethic and relationships I have built with the citizens of Waseca County on a daily basis reflect who I am. I believe that my experience, the trust that I have established, and my commitment to serving and protecting were key factors in the outcome.”

With the election over, Dulas said the next steps for the campaign will be the transition to establishing and developing the next leadership team. “The sheriff’s office will continue providing excellent law enforcement services to the citizens of Waseca County.” 

Dulas said he would like to thank his mentors, partners, and friends who supported him along the way. “I am truly grateful for their support and encouragement throughout my career.” 

The Dulas family, which includes daughters Landi, Madison, and Keegan, is incredibly proud of the sheriff-elect and provided the following messages to the Pioneer:

"It’s 12 a.m. on November 9, everyone has gone home with happy hearts, the house is quiet. We sit down with Jay (the new Waseca County Sheriff Elect, in case you haven’t heard) to recount the events of the last 24 hours.

“After congratulating him and telling him how incredibly proud of him we are, without hesitation, he says to my sisters and me, ‘Work hard, and always do the right thing.’ THIS, Waseca County, is the man you’ve elected to lead our community. Even after accomplishing a major life goal, he turns his experiences into a learning opportunity for others to work towards making a difference built on character and integrity. This is who you’ve elected, the man who will help teach your children the values of honesty, hard work, and respect.
