ICAN Talent Show celebrates 18 years

The 18th annual ICAN Talent Show, “Waseca Super Stars” took place on March 10 at the Central Building auditorium along Elm Ave East. It featured 24 different performances before a full house; nearly every seat inside the auditorium was full of fans, friends and family.

 

The emcees for the day were usually in groups of twos and included Katrina Davidson, Jacob Leiser, Jay Cowell, Anna Marken, Beth Lieser and Jackie Shato.  

 

The first to perform was Tasha Volkmann who sang for her boyfriend, “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion. After that was Kolton Flitter who sang and performed, “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. Then Caden Clark sang, “You Talk Too Much” by Run DMC. Jay Boyce had a pre-recorded video which featured him in various situations titled, “The Best of Jay Boyce” with help from Emily Guerra; his nickname in the videos was “Macho Man.”

 

As performers arrived or exited, emcees provided entertainment, sometimes in the form jokes and riddles. For example, Jake Leiser asked, “What’s with the focus on the eye in the song “Eye of the Tiger”? What about the other four letters?” This garnered a hearty laugh from the crowd. Leiser also stated his surprise that his sister, Beth, and one of her friends were what he called, “Country superstars” when they performed, “Something Bad” by Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood.

 

The talent show’s version of the Village People’s hit “YMCA” brought four entertainers on stage: Ashley Specmeier, Angela Motz, Christyn McClure and Allie Johnson. Jackie Shatto sang “Someone’s Watching Over Me” by Hilary Duff.  Dan Wright performed “Waymaker” by Michael W. Smith. Kelsea Brinkman and Hope Weise performed a skit titled, “The Little Old Lady Who was not Afraid of Anything” to thunderous applause. Todd Krueger and Maggie Gahler sang “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher.

 

Annabel Gonzales, Maggie Gahler, Jolene Root, Megan Johanneck, Allie Johnson, Kari Redd, Todd Krueger, Emmet Siebsen, Katrina Flitter and Angie Ulmen performed a skit they titled “The Senior Center Dance Party.” Jay Cowell sang “I Never Cry” by Poison. Aiden Greenwald devised a humorous skit based on Thomas the Train. Angie Ulmen sang “Lucky” by Britney Spears. Nicole Rux, Landry Grose and Emily Guerra performed “You don’t need two people to do your job.” Nancy Thompson and Emmett Siebsen sang “The Fighter” by Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood.

 

Trent Kuball sang “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry. Jacob Leiser sang “Speechless” by Dan and Shay. Betty Tiede sang “Wanted” by Alan Jackson. Nathan Gottschalk performed “A Whole New World” by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle. The final song for the evening was “Have a Nice Day” by Bon Jovi, sung by Erik Vlasak and the Wild Ones.
