Janesville city-wide sales draw many buyers

Janesville’s city-wide garage sale event featured 20 or more sales and likely drew hundreds of visitors to town from Thursday to Saturday, April 30 to May 2.

 

One well-stocked sale was put together by Sandy Anderson and Ivagene Kobylinski, who had begun sorting and organizing their wares about a week in advance. Once a daycare provider, Anderson had newer and vintage items useful in caring for small groups of young children, along with a variety of toys, books and puzzles. There were also more elegant items including dishes, vases, and decorations.

 

Their sale included four rows of tables inside the garage and a wide variety of items set outdoors for consideration. The two expressed gratitude for dry weather, and explained their sale featured items from six different households and from a long-standing country residence whose occupant had moved into town.

 

Kobylinski shared that business had been particularly brisk on Thursday, with a constant stream of shoppers. Indicating the many remaining items, she said good-naturedly, “You wouldn’t know it, but we sold more than $1,000 worth of things yesterday.” Anderson shared that many people tell her the sales at her home are some of the best, and claim “we always come here first.”

 

Other sale holders confirmed that Thursday had been a particularly busy day, and stated they were pleased with sales. “Of course, the hope is always that you’ll be able to sell everything,” one seller observed. “You just have to decide whether you’ll take a low offer and let someone carry the item away, or whether you want to go to the trouble of putting it back in the house where it came from.”
