Janesville Sip-n-Shop Springtime Market has chilly start

The Janesville Springtime Market Sip-n-Shop took place during a sunny but chilly Saturday, April 18. Shoppers could see the work of crafters, vendors and bakers in one place, and sample some wine while they were at it.

 

The event took place at the BTO Event Center at 130 North Main Street in Janesville. The wine was courtesy of the Bar Next Door, but this was just a wine tasting, the actual Bar Next Door is down a half block across the street. Shandee, the gal working the wine counter said, “I’m usually here for events like this, I’ve been working there since they opened in November. You’ll love the food, they have smash burgers and flatbread pizzas.”

 

As shoppers entered the event center, they found the Dreaming Flamingo and their handcrafted wares. Owner Anne Travis was warm and friendly, her motto “Made with love in MN” had that Minnesota nice added in. She had books that looked like the old Bobbsey Twin mystery books, but were instead journals with small sections of the books’ pages still inside. Said Travis, “We use the cover of the book and add blank sheets, it adds such a nice touch and gives the journal personality.” She had old puzzle pieces used as refrigerator magnets, and she also has a big presence on Facebook.

 

The Learning Place featured bags of assorted small toys. In a bag marked “Mushroom Kingdom,” there were little fairytale pieces including mushrooms and wizard hats, but very small. Other things were mixed in like small beads or sprockets, these things were poured into a bowl or large container and mixed around to give someone a textural feeling to relax. Think of those bonsai trees with the small boxes of sand some people place on their office desks: When they are stressed, they rake the sand with a small rake or shovel, these are similar, only bigger pieces and no plants. Other kits were unicorns, dinosaurs and video games.

 

Food was offered by Panta Ta Ethne, a restaurant featuring Puerto Rican Cuisine. The business has been open since 2021 and has food, dessert and soda. 

 

Other displays were by Calico Pony Sales out of Trimont, Minn., What Nots by Jane and her hand made pottery and ceramics. Terra Tallow, which gets their tallow from a farm in Cambridge that uses White Faced Hereford cows. They make lotions and hand creams. Cecelia Schueler and her Kaotic Kreations sold earrings, wine glass charms, pillowghans, (which are afghans that fold up into pillows) dreamcatchers, chap stick holders and coasters.

Nicole Paur for Paur’s Pantry was on hand with many assorted chocolates and a generous offering of free chocolate samples. She was happy to answer any questions.

 

The Janesville Springtime Market Sip-n-Shop will hold an event like this again, so keep an eye out.
