Legion fish fry goes swimmingly

The Waseca American Legion hosted an all you can eat fish fry the evening of Friday, April 3. The Sons of the American Legion, organizers of the event, were working together swimmingly and kept the fish flowing freely. Around 150 diners came through their doors, including some drawn over from the meat raffle on the tavern side of the building.

 

Members of the Sons of the American Legion explained they sponsor fish fry meals every Friday during Lent. Earlier in the day there was a celebration of life at the tavern side, so there were people coming and going all day. In fact, many found it necessary to stand to the side in the hallway when entering the building so customers carrying their food and beverage purchases could pass by on their way out.

 

In the ballroom where the fish was being served, Tom Hindt was taking tickets and directing people where to go. He commented, “We’ve got a great team with the Sons of the Legion. I think it’s safe to call them the A-team because when we need a job done, they can always be depended on.” Hindt needed a moment to give tickets to people who had just walked in, he said his greeting and politely got them started before he continued, “The Sons do so much good work, they are just amazing.”

 

Over at the kitchen counter, Roger Atwood was taking orders and handing people their food. Atwood said, “We got beer battered cod fish tonight, I think it’s always the same.” He grabbed a basket and handed it to a woman who found her table. Hindt added, “We’ve had a really good turnout today, it’s such a big help, all proceeds go to the Legion.”
