Swifities rejoiced as the Waseca Public Library put on a Taylor Swift party on Thursday, June 22. It was the perfect time to celebrate the music superstar, as Swift performed two concerts at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis last Friday and Saturday night. Adding to the spectacle, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fray temporarily renamed the city “Swiftie-apolis”; Governor Tim Walz called June 23 and 24 “Taylor Swift Days.”
Waseca’s Taylor Swift party featured themed decor and refreshments, along with several activities and crafts to make. The host was Waseca librarian Afton Finley, who curated a playlist of Swift’s greatest hits, including “Mean,” “Picture To Burn,” and “You Need To Calm Down.”
After a heated round of Taylor Swift Jeopardy, guests were invited to make beaded friendship bracelets and decorate fabric tote bags, decorating them with iconography from their favorite Taylor Swift songs and albums. They also played a game that Finley called “balloon bop,” in which guests took turns popping balloons with Taylor Swift lyrics in them, winning points as they filled in the blanks correctly. As the party drew to a close, Finley gave out Taylor Swift stickers to reward guests for being “good sports,” during the trivia game.
