New website, new way to hear opinions

A new domain name dominates the future at the regular Waseca Board of Commissioners meeting August 26, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

Right now, the Waseca county’s website domain is www.co.waseca.mn.us, which is planned to change in the future. Through many steps with the federal government, all of the websites of Waseca county will be under the same domain name, “Wasecacounty.gov”. Although the county will keep both names for a while as they transition, the push to change the domain to a “.gov” is due to a risk in funding if it is not changed. The new domain name was approved with a motion from Malterer/Harguth.

Dan Larson from MRC (Minnesota Rural Counties) presented to the board concerning Waseca county joining MRC. MRC is a platform built specifically for rural communities so that their voices can be heard at the federal level in government. MRC works closely with AMC (Association of Minnesota Counties) to look at growing and the positives of communicating between rural and metro entities. The price for the county joining MRC is on a sliding scale depending on the population of the county, but it was estimated Waseca county’s price between $2,500 and $2,700 annually. There will be a deeper discussion with more information on this topic at the next board meeting. 

The acceptance and approval of contracts and final payment for the pavement in front of the Conagra facility and the lot surfacing at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center prove that there was savings in both of the projects, of which will go back into the state aid fund where it was taken from.

The courthouse is very close to being done with still additional projects to look at. 

There is a new public health nurse to take over for the departing health nurse and two positions for public health nurses are still open.
