Peppy Peppers Bingo introduces kids to 4-H

The Waldorf Peppy Peppers 4-H Club held its eight annual bingo gathering the afternoon of Sunday, March 8. Those in attendance were treated to homemade snacks and juice, and could win any of a numerous collection of prizes. The event drew about 40 visitors; fortunately, plenty of Peppers were there to help out.

 

Adult volunteer Amanda Bethke explained all the prizes and snacks were donated by the 4-H club members. “We do this to call attention to 4-H and to let kids know that it’s out there, we’re always looking for new members, and this is a fun way to do that.” There were chips, cookies, brownies and bars; there was also juice and coffee available over at the kitchen windows.

 

Up in the front of the room were four junior callers who were doing a darn fine job. Bethke pointed out Harper, Kenny, Landon and Jace. As she spoke, Jace called out “B-4”; Bethke added, “I don’t think I’ve ever heard Jace talk this loud before today.”

 

Of the 40 or so people present, well over half were 18 or younger. While Bethke was talking, “Bingo” was called out twice. After the winning cards were confirmed, both Elaine and Presley (two sisters) were allowed to peruse the winners’ table and pick any item. Elaine chose a not-so-little bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter Easter eggs and big sister Presley picked a single plastic can of brand-new Play Dough. Other items they might have chosen included cookies or pens and drawing paper. It was a nice afternoon and a pleasant atmosphere with plenty of smiles to go around.   

 

Bethke also wanted everyone to know there will be a Peppy Peppers 4-H pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon on Sunday, April 12 at the Waldorf community center. “It’s free and open to the public,” she mentioned. “They will be accepting free-will donations.”
