Sacred Heart Salad Luncheon serves all

The Catholic Daughters of America held their annual salad luncheon in the Sacred Heart Church basement on Thursday, June 11. Held in June every year, this will be the 15th time these ladies have held their event; they saw a little over 70 guests through their doors.

 

Pat Foley was the lady taking money at the door, as another visitor came through her line, she was handed a $50 dollar bill and she remarked, “Where do these big bills keep coming from?” She had to dig around for the change for a moment and sent another hungry couple on their way toward the salad line. Foley continued, “I’m a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. I’m also co-chair of this salad luncheon.” She stopped talking long enough to hand Ken Earle, a member of First Congregation Church, a ticket. Said Earle, “After this, later on today I’m going clay shooting.”

 

Foley described the schedule used to prepare for the luncheon: “Monday, we did our shopping, got all our supplies, Tuesday and Wednesday we did the chopping and the preparation work. Final assembly was done the day of. You don’t have to be a member of our church to get our salads, anyone can.”

 

Up at the salad line, Deb Wobschall was helping guide people, “We have 10 salads, Italian pasta, coleslaw, fresh fruit salad, cookie and whip cream salad, potato salad, pistachio salad, veggie salad, ramen noodle salad, taco salad and broccoli and raisin salad.” There were also buns and cookies. Joanne Earle was supervising the glasses of water with eagle eyes; when they got close to running out ,she was on top of it. She almost didn’t get a chance to be in the group photo, she was so adamant. Added Wobschall, “We had 20 ladies volunteering for this, the first ladies were here around 8:30 this morning getting everything ready.”

 

Unfortunately this event is only held in June every year, said Wobschall, “Yep, if you want one of our salads, you’ll just have to wait till next year.”
