Senior Center lot sale supports programs

Traffic was brisk at the Waseca Senior Center held a lot sale on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2 and 3. Nearly anything you could name was available for purchase, and hungry shoppers could visit the Lucia’s Cocina food truck. All sale items were donated with proceeds supporting the center and its programs.
Tarin Kuball, the executive director of the Waseca Senior Center said, “The community has really turned out for this.”
Items were on display both indoors and out–goods on tables in the parking lot and furniture and other large items indoors. Regarding the many items, she observed, “We asked for donations, clean donations and we haven’t had any problems. We got here at 6 a.m. and the buyers started showing up around 7:45. We have almost no expenses, and all income goes right back into the center. We use it to fund programs like exercise classes; some people get together to play cards or whatever they want to do. We have special dinners and other daily activities for our elderly community.”
Noland Stewart, Associate Pastor of Adult Discipleship and Worship Administration at Christ Community Church said he wanted one of the couches inside, “But it was sold already.” Then he found a dresser he could’ve used, “But that had a sold sticker on it too. Oh well.”
Eagle eyed Vada Dahnert was watching the cash box outside. The sun was out and very strong, but she was in the shade of the maroon awning bordering the parking lot. Indicating the many items, she said many had been listed on Facebook Marketplace. She credited volunteer Chris Neu with driving his pickup as far as New Ulm, New Prague, Jordan, Lonsdale, Mankato and Janesville. “He did a lot of work for us and was so handy to have around!” she enthused.
Volunteer Janet Sorensen had just sold a badminton racket. She acknowledged all of the couches, loveseats and ottomans inside with sold stickers on them, saying, “Most people will come to get their larger items tomorrow or next week. They are all paid for. If they can’t come to us, we can charge a delivery fee and get it to them.”
A quick update on Lucia’s Cocina and the new building they are putting up next to the south Kwik Trip, proprietor Mona Montenegro says, “We plan to open sometime next spring, I don’t have an exact date yet. As of right now we have the walls up, but going into winter, anything can happen. I just want everyone to know we’re working on it.”
