Sleigh and Cutter Dinner and Dance

The Waseca VFW was near capacity the evening of Feb. 27 for the dinner and dance sponsored by the Sleigh and Cutter Association. 

 

Along with music from local band Los T, the evening featured the announcement of this year’s mystery individual, “Frosty,” who turned out to be county commissioner and former county sheriff Brad Milbrath.

 

Sleigh and Cutter Festival president Scott Roemhildt, who served as emcee for the presentations, informed the crowd there had been only 14 correct guesses regarding Frosty’s identity, all of which had been submitted within the last few days. Janesville area resident Ivan Anderson’s name was drawn at random from among a hatful of eligible individuals as the grand prize winner. He received $400: $350 he would have received automatically, another $50 was added because he was present at the event.

 

Five names were drawn at random from among the eligible guesses. These folks would receive $100–but only if they were present at the event. Jerry Harguth and Roger Kobylinski were the lucky two to collect the money. Jeremy Parpart, Jason Mullerleile and Andy Hager missed out.

 

Another drawing presented $50 to eligible correct guess submitters, whether they were present or not. These five were Caitlin Roberts, David Low, James Sikel, Sandy Anderson and April Harguth. 

 

Another prize was for being the first from one’s own community to guess Frosty’s identity. Winners for this were Wasecan Jess Ahlman, Janesville area resident James Sikel, and New Richland area resident Andy Hager.

 

Waseca resident Jenny Cahill and her two daughters Isabelle Lopez and Caitlin Roberts were presented with their $1,750 prize for finding the Sleigh and Cutter Medallion. Cahill told of searching numerous locations, claiming lightheartedly that she and her daughters had run their hands under every public barbeque grill in the city.

 

She described finally locating the medallion inside a zippered water bag wrapped around the base of a young tree in Northeast Park.

 

Present for the evening were 2026 grand marshals Bill and Eileen Harguth. In addition to being long-time supporters of Sleigh and Cutter events, the couple loans their sound equipment to announce information about parade units along State Street.

 

It was also revealed that Roger Frederick, who was present for the evening, had been a participant in the very first Sleigh and Cutter Parade 76 years ago; he was 10 years old at the time.
