So many pancakes, so little time

The Waseca Care Giver Services hosted an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at Sweet-Sommers VFW post 1642 on Sunday, April 26. There was also an accompanying bake sale where donations were accepted.

Darnell Anderson was manning the door, the Commander for the VFW, he said, “As far as numbers go, we’ve had 75 through our doors this morning.” On the menu were French toast, biscuits and sausage gravy, sausage and bacon. Said Anderson, “This is for the Caregivers, and the bake sale, a lot of that was donated.”

Kelly Boeddeker Executive Director for the Waseca Caregiver Services said, “This is our annual breakfast, just like last year. Once we did a walleye feed but it’s usually just a morning thing. I myself had a little bit of everything except the pancakes; it was all delicious.” The Caregiver Services agency provides many services focused on the elderly, but has recently been expanding to include all ages. Their goal: “It is our mission to provide a holistic approach in supporting aging adults and their family caregivers with the goal of maintaining community living and a positive quality of life.”

From the kitchen came the sound of dishes being washed. From the dining room came the sounds of forks on plates, or spoons stirring coffee. Jackie Peters was manning the bake sale, it was close to noon and she said, “Got a little bit left, some cookies and some cakes, sold a lot.”

Boeddeker added, “The proceeds for today go towards all our programs, the veterans, dementia, all of it. I would also like to give a big shout-out to Blain Brooks and his wife Carol for all their help in organizing everything for today.” With that she grabbed a towel and got back to work.
