Sportsmen’s Club fish fry draws more than 200

More than 220 people attended a New Richland Area Sportsmen’s Club fish fry at the New Richland City Hall the evening of Friday, Feb. 27. 

 

Volunteers numbering 20 or more worked at every phase of the event, from frying and serving the fish to delivering additional pieces to diners at their tables. Those enjoying the meal were asked to contribute a free-will donation.

 

According to Sportsmen’s Club leadership, the event’s focus was calling attention to the need to replace trees dying in unfortunate numbers at the city park located on the shore of St. Olaf Lake. So far, 23 trees have died and been removed. To date, three have been replaced using funds supplied by the Sportsmen’s Club.

 

Money taken in at the fish fry will be used toward replacing additional trees. Along with that, information was shared with members of the public, inviting them to “sponsor” individual trees and the cost of planting them.

 

The cost per tree is dependent on what type of tree is chosen based on variables that include donor choice as well as factors contributing to tree survival, including soil type, amount of sun, moisture levels and perhaps others.

 

Parties who sponsor a tree will have their names placed on a plaque, and will be able to include a brief statement, perhaps memorializing a loved one or sending a message about the park or its trees.
