TEAM of the month

Friday, September 30, TEAM Academy held its first CARES assembly of the year amid homecoming festivities. CARES is an acronym which summarizes the character-building goals the school has for its students:Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control. Students showing these attributes are rewarded and celebrated at this monthly assembly.

“Wolf Paws” are tickets given to students for exemplary displays of CARES attributes during their daily routines. During the CARES assembly, tickets are entered in drawings where winners can choose to have a special lunch, bring a stuffed toy to school, skip a homework assignment, or some other non-material reward. The highlight of the assembly is the announcement of Student of the Month.

One individual from each grade level is honored. Candidates are nominated by their teachers. The September winners received a balloon declaring “You’re #1!” and a ring pop in addition to recognition on a school-wide basis. Winners were sixth-grader Erasmo, fifth-grader RJ, fourth-grader Tamyah, third-grader Jemsslie, second-grader Jax, first-grader Georgia, and Kindergartener Aaliyah.

Erasmo’s favorite color is black, and he knows he wants to go into the workforce after graduating high school but doesn’t know yet what job he’d like to do. His life advice is to “keep on following your dreams and goals.” Jax wants to be a soldier when he grows up, and his favorite color is green. His favorite school subject is math. RJ wants to be an astronaut, and also likes the color black. Her advice for life is “Stay healthy and follow your dreams.” Tamyah’s dream job is to be a waitress, and her favorite food is nachos. In her free time she likes to walk to the park, and watch videos on TikTok. Georgia’s favorite school subject is reading, her favorite food is spaghetti, and in her free time she likes to play with toys with her friends. When she grows up she wants to be a teacher.

Jemsslie and Aaliyah were not present to receive their awards.
