Waseca Fusion JO Volleyball had a memorable weekend hosting our third annual Jocelynn Passon Memorial Tournament on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 at the Waseca Intermediate School.
Jocelynn Passon, age 12, of Waseca, died on Friday, August 4, 2023 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Jocelynn, the daughter of Steve and Jessica (St John) Passon, was a girly girl who loved everything from fishing to fashion. She was a natural athlete and was good at everything she tried. Her love of volleyball took over after her first season of playing.
This was Waseca Fusion's first year adding the 12U division, and the entire tournament was a huge success. We welcomed a total of 14 teams from Waseca, St Charles, Adams, NRHEG, St Clair, Northfield, and Kasson.
The 14U competition took place March 28. We did have a few teams drop out because of the boys’ state tournament, but it was still a great day! St Charles Heat took gold and Waseca Fusion-Hoehn took silver.
On March 29, our 12U division competed. In the gold bracket, Waseca Fusion-Wangen went undefeated to take gold and Southern Stars 12U took silver. In the silver bracket, KVBC 12-1 took gold and Waseca Fusion-Losen took silver.
Jocelynn's family attended the tournament and had a table display set up with in memory of Jocelynn. Jessica Passon, Jocelynn's mother, and Julie St Peter, Jocelynn's grandmother, volunteered their time working the tournament.
Funds raised from the event support scholarships for graduating seniors who competed with Waseca Fusion throughout their high school careers.
