Waldorf considering power generator

During their meeting the evening of Monday, Feb. 9, members of the Waldorf city council discussed the possibility of purchasing a generator to supply power to city hall when other sources of electricity become unavailable. On Jan. 21, power was out for the town of Waldorf for about four hours; during that time, the city fire department could not leave the building because the electric door wouldn’t open. That, and since city hall is the emergency management center for the town, prompted the city council’s interest. 

 

Council members learned the eagle statue for the Veterans’ Memorial has not arrived yet. There are $100 engraved bricks available for the Veterans’ Memorial walkway. Those interested can contact Charles Barnes (763) 286-2246 charles.barnes@barnecat.com.

 

Council members passed a resolution signing the city of Waldorf on to the Waseca County All-Hazard Mitigation plan, a step needed to be eligible for any Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursement.

 

City maintenance inspected three trees within city limits which were regarded as being potentially hazardous. Only one was determined to be a nuisance and will be taken care of. Dan McGanon’s dead tree was most likely due to construction and does not need to be removed. 

 

Sheriff Dulas requested a map to properly address security during the Waldorf Days musical performance; Waldorf Days will be August 21 to 23 this year. One council member suggested asking for the Sheriff’s posse, which would also help with underage consumption policing and crowd control.

 

Council members learned the city will now be paying 72.5 cents per mile to those who have approval to use their private vehicles for city business. The rate is 2.5 cents more than last year, and is based on the recently increased Internal Revenue Service federal reimbursement rate.

 

The next Park Committee meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 6:30 at the Waldorf community center, everyone is encouraged to join. 

 

Ron Fischer from maintenance reported, “Everything’s been cleaned up” regarding the creamery. He also fixed some loose bolts on some playground equipment council member Missy Sorbo had pointed out.

 

The water and sewer summary stated nearly $2,300 in water bills for city residents remained unpaid.
