Waldorf council approves fire chief salary

The Waldorf city council met on the evening of Monday, May 11.During their regular monthly meeting the evening of May 11, Waldorf city council members approved a $3,900 annual salary for the city’s fire chief, with the condition that either he attend council meetings personally or make arrangements for a representative to attend. Council members learned the fire department has accepted three new fire fighters.For the Waldorf Days FD raffle, Natalie Roecker, gambling manager, requested an offsite gambling permit.  

 

For water/sewer a total of $2,871 was not collected. The city media and anthracite (filters) need to be cleaned due to iron buildup. This will cost around $10,000.

 

Council members were also informed that an aging Xcel power line that supplies electricity to the light post near the city’s Veterans Park, is in need of replacement; Xcel will be billing the city almost $2,500 for the work.

 

The next meeting of the Waldorf Days committee is 5 p.m. on June 8 at 5 p.m. at city hall; Waldorf Days will be August 21 to 23. John Hanson, Waseca teacher, was present to discuss the Waldorf History Walk, which he would like to advertise alongside Waldorf days. These walks consist of GPS tours using a downloaded app and include historic landmarks and events. Janesville, New Richland, Waseca and Waldorf are all being included. The tours and other features can be viewed at www.explorewasecacounty.gov.

 

Wendy Holmes, Waldorf resident, is interested in using the community center on Monday nights to offer free line-dancing lessons.

 

The Waldorf Park Committee will have the old playground equipment removed free of charge with the exception of two blue slides that were purchased at Menards and can be re-homed. Renee Cordes has requested that their family could obtain both slides, provided Waldorf is no longer liable for the slides once removed. The Waldorf Park Committee is still accepting donations for the playground.

 

The next council workshop will be at 6 p.m. Monday, June 1. The topics will be data centers and the new Mediacomm contract.

 

The plastic Bag Trex Program will continue but will not guarantee park benches for every 250 pounds collected. Instead, for collecting 250 pounds., Waldorf will be entered into a quarterly drawing.
