Waldorf keeps traditional state flag

The Waldorf city council held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 13. It was shared during the meeting that council members have voted to display the original Minnesota flag at city buildings.

 

A Waldorf Picnic for the Park event will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the lawn of First Lutheran, located at 120 Third Ave N. Hot dogs, beans, chips, dessert, and a beverage will be served. There will be no posted charge for the meal, but the Parks and Recreation Committee will accept free-will donations. If it rains, the picnic will be at the community center. The committee is just a little over the halfway mark towards its goal of $110,000. Installation of the park equipment is planned to begin in August.

 

The fire department has decided not to include a children’s portion of the water fight during Waldorf Days. The Waldorf fire department donated $5,000 to the new park. The Waldorf Fireman’s Burger and Sweet Corn Feed (part of Waldorf Days) is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. The city will spray the week before the city celebration to keep the mosquitos under control.

 

City resident Kathy Grinnell requested a break on her water bill, which was $800 due to a leaking toilet which has since been fixed. A motion was made to bring the cost down to $250. Regarding the city water system, $4,009 was not collected, with 14 no pays, and six partial payments.

 

The council voted to increase pay for election judges to $25 an hour; the hope is to keep the level of pay competitive.

 

A resolution was made to change the city’s ordinance violation policy. In addition to a letter of warning on the first violation and a financial penalty on the second, if a third violation occurs, the Waseca County Sheriff’s office will be called in to visit with the individual. The sheriff’s office will be provided with the information needed for these conversations. This policy is similar to that currently used in New Richland.

 

A resolution was passed adopting an amended fee schedule for 23 different costs charged by the city, including water meters and late fees. There will be zero fees for heavy loads permits, excavation permits, peddler or transient merchant permits, costs for reviewing, and investigating and administering applications for an amendment to the zoning code. There will also be no fees for costs incurred in reviewing, investigating and administering applications for a preliminary or final plat. A fine of $25 will be imposed on homeowners who blow their grass clippings into the street. The monthly water charge will be $46 base fee plus $.006/gallon. The monthly sewer services are $46 base fee plus $.00525/gallon. There will be a $50 charge for utility reinstatement services, service disconnection and turn-off charge and $50 per hour to trim residents' grass. Snow removal will be a minimum of $40. Delinquent payments shall be ten percent of past due amount. The water rate shall be $.10/gallon. The building permit fee shall be $10.00/$1,000, with an eight month completion date or $750 fine. Community Center rental fees are $100 to rent the front, $200 whole building, $60 setup day before or after, $75 for fundraisers. A tractor bucket load of gravel is $50 per load. All unlicensed pets will be $50/month until pet is registered.
