Waseca Marching Jays begin season with August “camp”
Thu, 08/13/2026 - 9:00am
The 71 members of the Waseca Junior Senior High School Marching Band finished up a whole weekend of band camp training and events with a short parade on Aug. 9 that took them to the Waseca County Fairgrounds, where they provided a performance which closed the 3-day garage sale that had been underway since Friday. After performing, band members helped clean up after the garage sale and pack up unsold items to be donated to a thrift store in Mankato.
With the season’s opening training complete, band members will be practicing Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Among the band’s events this year is the Waseca Marching Classic, set for Saturday, Sept. 19. More than 10 bands have already registered for the grand parade; registration is also strong for the nighttime field show. As in the past, people can purchase an admission wristband in advance at a bargain price, or pay a few dollars more at the gate.
The Waseca Marching Jays will be in the Minnesota State Fair Parade on Aug. 30. The Prairie Colors Festival will take place the morning of September 12, the Eastview Marching Fest will take place the evening of September 12. The band will also perform for a home football game on Sept. 18 and the MSU-Mankato Show Sept. 26. The Festival of Band is Oct. 3 and Youth in Music is Oct. 10.
Anastasia Garza, band booster president, expressed her thanks to the Firemen’s Relief Association for their 150-burger donation to the volleyball tournament the evening of Aug. 8 at Clear Lake Park, “We never got the chance to thank them,” she said.
