A birthday party at the meeting

At the Waldorf City Council Meeting on the night of Monday, June 13, small town friendliness and a need to get work done intersected.

The meeting started with a little excitement when Waldorf Mayor Rob Wilkening nearly dropped, but safely delivered a birthday cake for city clerk DeeAnn Britton.

After the birthday song was sung, Britton blew out the candles on the cake leaving one alight.

“She’s got one lover, that’s good Dave,” jested the Mayor.

“How old do you think I am?” Britton asked her fellow council members.

“21,” answered councilwoman Carrie Ferch, jokingly. It was in fact Britton’s 64th birthday.

Once cake was distributed to the council members and all in attendance, the meeting went underway as usual.

Motions Passed

Payments were approved for slightly more than $545,000 in construction projects for road construction and city infrastructure.

A motion was made and approved by the council to adopt Resolution 2022-003, accepting the offer to purchase a $3,439,000 General Obligation Revenue Bond from the United States of America.

The Waldorf Fire Department was granted an off-site gambling license for the raffle at its annual burger and sweet corn feed.

A resolution to pull overgrown trees and bushes outside the community center was passed.

Other Business

After an unsealed drop box resulted in checks falling through the opening and onto the ground, the city council confirmed that the issue was resolved by sealing the box. This will help mitigate the issue of unpaid and partially unpaid bills. As of May 31, $907.09 was not collected.

The city council is looking into artificial turf and pouring new sidewalks for the Community Center. Further action will be taken once accurate quotes and logistic information are available.

The city of Waldorf plans to close on June 24 for the Minnesota Rural Water Finance Authority Loan with $3,571,040.40 due.

The city council is in the process of interviewing cleaning staff candidates.

The Waldorf Community Picnic to raise money for Waldorf Days took place June 22.
