Pumpkin party at Farmamerica

It was a party at Farmamerica on Saturday, October 8. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., over 100 people took part in its annual Pumpkin Party.

There were plenty of things to do during the day of fall fun and early Halloween celebrations. The old Crystal Valley Feed Mill was turned into a classroom for the day. Waseca County Dairy Princesses Brooke Jahr and Jadyn White were in charge of giving the hundred-year history of the place while providing arts and crafts for the kids to do in the space.

For the more adventurous children, there was a corn maze and scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt included a dozen items for the kids ranging from donkeys to an anvil for the kids to spot. The children that completed the scavenger hunt received a fun prize. For those trick-or-treaters who ventured out to the 1850s homestead, a sweet prize of early Halloween candy.

Other events at the Pumpkin Party included Pumpkin Science — an experiment involving exploding pumpkins — pumpkin carving, photo ops, blacksmith demos, a petting zoo, combine simulators, pumpkin bowling, and a virtual reality experience in the feed mill.

Refreshments were provided by B-Lo Zero, who served mini donuts and snow cones, and Locia’s Cocina, who provide street tacos, iced coffees, soda, water, and a hot dog kid’s meal. Free hot apple cider was also provided by Farmamerica.

The Pumpkin Party gave children a head start on their Halloween trick-or-treating while showing the history of farming in southern Minnesota. With beautiful fall weather and many attendants, Farmamerica couldn’t have asked for a better day to hold its event..
