Spire Credit Union expanding

Spire Credit Union celebrated its grand opening Thursday, October 20 with a ribbon cutting at 5:15 p.m.

The ribbon cutting featured many members from the Waseca Chamber of Commerce and representatives from Spire, including company CEO Dan Stoltz.

“We wanted to come to Waseca because we saw a big opportunity here,” Stoltz told the crowd gathered in the lobby. “We wanted to expand outside of the Twin Cities and bring our business to towns like Waseca throughout the state.”

The beginnings of the move to Waseca for Spire came in 2021 when Diversified Credit Union, which came to Waseca in 1988, voted to merge with Spire. Since that time, Spire had been operating in Diversified’s original location near the Yellow Mushroom.

“We didn’t want to be tucked away in the corner of town,” Stoltz explained. “We always want to be right on Main Street where everyone can see us. So, we took the opportunity to move here.”

Spire built a new structure on the lot where Godfather’s Pizza was once located near McDonald’s. 

The new offices, 6,810 square feet in size, officially opened to the public on September 10. Waseca Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ann Fitch thanked the CEO for bringing Spire to Waseca. “They took a building that was abandoned for many years and brought in more business to Waseca,” she said. “We want to welcome them to town.”

The ribbon cutting featured the signature REO Speed Wagon in the background, a vehicle featured in many of Spire’s commercials.

Throughout the whole afternoon, Pleasant Grove Pizza farm provided many varieties of pizza to patrons. It was a great evening of fun and celebrating a new era for both the credit union and the city of Waseca.

“We at Spire thank you very much for all your support,” Stoltz said.
