Cooking, art, hobbies and choice of drink

Welcome back to another version of things Amelia has noticed in her life or things she thinks are funny and wants to share.
I have been working the bar more often now that I am home, and I always love the opportunity it gives me to observe human behavior. Some people, for some reason, think that being in a bar or being drunk allows them to throw off the shackles of society and do things or say things they normally wouldn’t. Some people though didn’t have those shackles to begin with and that’s just how they are.
For example, one regular customer decided she was definitely going to get her point across to a guy by throwing her drink in his face. Yes, that’s really going to show him that his words are hurtful to some women and definitely not get him more angry and riled up at all. She apologized to me the following week for causing such a ruckus, which was nice, but didn’t take back the fact that she caused such a disruption in our respectful establishment.
Or another customer last week decided to walk into the bar and loudly share his political views with his friends while also asking personal political questions of me and others. Hun, I’m not there to give my political views. Do you want a drink or not?
I understand that alcohol loosens the lips and that sober thoughts are drunk words and all that, but I still think it’s interesting to notice these things as the one sober person in a bar full of people at different levels of drunk.
On to something more positive — art! I went with a friend last weekend to an art fair in the city, and while we couldn’t afford anything at all, it was a lot of fun to just walk around and see the passions of people and artists come to life and be presented. People are so talented and I love that everyone sees things in a different way and interprets it to their own liking.
I also like that so many people love to be creative. I feel like there’s a little part in all of us that just is itching to be creative in some way, whether that’s painting, knitting, pottery, woodworking, sculptures, you name it. My friend and I were wondering how someone realizes they are good at something enough to pursue it into a business. Who figures out they’re good at glassblowing and enjoys it enough to sell it? How does one find out that they’re good at making porcelain into jewelry? I don’t know, but I love it and I’m so proud of all the artists and their good work, although I was not able to support them financially.
My mother has recently gotten into pottery. My sister went on a crocheting frenzy a couple months ago. Me, I haven’t been able to really tap into my creative and artsy side in a while, but that’s ok. I still read, I still enjoy the beautiful things in life.
My friend just started a full time job last week. Her first in life as we just graduated. She asked me if I had any ideas for a hobby she could pick up because now she goes to work and comes home and doesn’t know what to do for the rest of the evening that is not spend time on her phone. It was something I hadn’t really thought of before, that I might have to find a hobby to take up my time in between work instead of always having something to do.
I told her to maybe try running or knitting, but that I personally like working out, reading, cooking.
Speaking of cooking, I’ve noticed it’s a lot different cooking for oneself than it is cooking for a family. I’ve spoken in this column about how I’ve enjoyed cooking recently. But it’s a lot more fun when I just have to worry about myself instead of other people. Before, I could eat how I want and when I want. If I want to start making dinner at 8 p.m. and make something spicy or make something I’m craving, it’s no big deal.
Now, I have to worry about when everyone’s going to be home, what people might want to eat while also making sure I don’t make anything that they don’t like. My mom doesn’t like a lot of onions. My dad loves them. My sister doesn’t like mushrooms. None of them like spicy foods.
I feel I’ve ranted too long, but there’s just so much to notice in life.
