Garza, Benson, crowned

Kaden Garza and Madalyn Benson were named Waseca Junior Senior High School’s Snow Week king and queen during a coronation ceremony the morning of Thursday, Feb. 5. 

 

Emcees for the event were seniors Ava Bruhn and Allen Kopetzki. Since the coronation was held during the school day, students in grades 9 through 12 attended, as did people from the community. Members of all winter sports teams were seated in front of the crowd near the royal dais.

 

In turn, the coaches for each sport summarized their seasons. Crowd members heard from girls’ hockey coach Chas Benson; cheer coach Ashley Semmann; girls’ and boys’ wrestling coach Jake Janike; boys’ basketball coach Seth Anderson; girls’ basketball coach Brian Rupe; boys’ hockey team coach Chris Storie; and the gymnastics team was introduced by Layla Keith and Katelyn Weber. 

 

Queen Madalyn Benson is the daughter of Chas and Nikki Benson. Maddy is a captain of both girls’ hockey and tennis, she works at the Mill Event Center, the Jays Nest and as a lifeguard for Community Ed; she is involved in Youth Service League (YSL). Maddy is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

 

King Kaden Garza is the son of Raul and Lacie Garza. Kaden is involved in football, baseball and is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He works at Borneke Construction. Kaden enjoys fishing and hunting and spending time with family and friends. 

 

Snow court member Jude Gehring is the son of Jason and Bridget Gehring. Jude is a captain of the boys’ hockey team, and participates in golf. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Jude works at Kamp Dells in the summer and is a hockey referee in the winter. He enjoys hunting and fishing and hanging out with friends and family in his free time.

 

Ella Bulfer is the daughter of Philip and Amber Bulfer. Ella is a member of the Minnesota Honor Society and Sacred Heart Church. She is on the art team, and is captain of the girls’ soccer team. Ella contributes to the Explore Waseca County Website project and plays soccer for Minnesota Thunder Academy, Minnesota Twins Star and ETS Athlete.

 

Lucas Selthun is the son of Chris and Deb Selthun. Lucas is a captain of the football and wrestling  teams, a member of Sacred Heart Church and he works at Greener World Solutions. 

 

Khloe Fuller is the daughter of James and Kristen Fuller. Khloe is one of the captains of the girls’ soccer team, she is in select choir, show choir, student advisory and yearbook. Khloe is employed at Tails and Trails in Owatonna.

 

William Mansfield is the son of John and Edita Mansfield. William is a member of the Minnesota Honor Society and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is involved in football, track, BPA and he also volunteers at the food shelf. William works at Pepito’s Pizzeria.

 

Lauren Grant is the daughter of Joe and Melinda Grant. Lauren is involved in Business Professionals of America (BPA), Superintendent Club, select choir, jazz choir, and Sextets; she is also a softball captain. Lauren volunteers at the Waseca Intermediate school afterschool program and works at the Starbucks in Hy-Vee.

 

Liam Biddle is the son of Jon and Stacy Biddle. Liam participates in football and is a wrestling manager. He is a laborer at JB Exteriors and JB Seamless. 

 

Tailyn Kaput is the daughter of Ryan and Vilay Miller. Tailyn is involved in BPA, DECA, and YSL, she is employed at the Jays Nest and as a nanny for the Watje family in the summer. Tailyn is a member at North Waseca Lutheran Church. 

 

Deven Parpart is the son of Jeremy and Michele Parpart. Deven  is involved in football, wrestling and baseball. He pours concrete for his dad. 

 

Madison Rasche is the daughter of Jason Rasche and Corrine Schumacher. Madison attends Christ Community Church and is a part of the student leadership team, she is a Fellowship of Christian Athletes huddle leader, involved in DECA, BPA and Student Council. Madison is a golf captain and on the tennis team, she is also a member of the swim club. She works at Waseca Lakeside Golf Club and Bixby Feed Mill.
