Peppers offer 4-H pancake breakfast

More than 220 guests attended the Waldorf Peppy Peppers 4-H Club pancake breakfast at the community center on Sunday, April 12, with free will donations accepted. Proceeds go directly to the club and help kids go to camp and other club outings. Out in front of the community center were children struggling against the wind to hold up a sign alerting passing drivers.

Inside, protected from the wind, were people feasting on eggs, sausages, and pancakes with all the fixings. The kitchen was full of people serving and stocking food, with others out in the dining area gathering plates and wiping tables. Once they were finished eating, children with sticky fingers were running around among the tables, doing what kids do.

Laura Wenzel and Nikki Chicos were helping 4-H members take tickets at the door and keep track of the head count. Said Wenzel, “We’re seeing good numbers this morning, a lot of people came out.”

Natalie Roeker, a member of the Peppy Peppers said, “We have 38 people helping out this morning with 28 youth 4-H members. What we’ll do this morning is whatever we bought for breakfast that’s left over, we donate to the New Richland Food Shelf. The money raised goes to helping cover the cost of camps our club members are in. Not only that, we also purchase Christmas gifts for the wishing tree and complete Thanksgiving food bags for the New Richland Food Shelf.”

So what’s up next for 4-H? Roeker continued, “We’ll be decorating a hay bale at the county fair along with our club scrapbook and banner entries.” She also wanted to remind everyone, “There’ll be no meeting in May due to many families helping out with spring planting.”
