Exchange Club recognized for CARE effort

At their June 23 meeting, members of the Waseca Exchange Club was recognized with a national-level Child Abuse Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) award for the third year in a row. Club president Mikhail Rostislavovich told club members, “We’re the only club in the nation’s history to have done that and you should all be proud.” Rostislavovich mentioned local representatives will receive the award during the Exchange Club’s national convention, set for July 9 to 11 in Omaha, Nebraska, then joked that club mascot Time-Out Teddy would be among those attending.

The club was also awarded with a “district” acknowledgment as the region’s “Outstanding Club of the Year.” This honor covers clubs in Minnesota, Iowa, and parts of Nebraska, recognizing overall excellence in growth, service projects, membership, and community impact.

Rostislavovich also issued a request that representatives from area service organizations would be part of the Discover Waseca Tourism unit set to be part of Waseca’s July 4 parade. The intent of having a unit, he said, is to call attention to the volunteer work done to raise money and increase public awareness for the annual Fourth of July fireworks, a project of the Tourism organization.  The parade unit “ is so people understand that Discover Waseca Tourism goes out and solicits the funds and pays for the fireworks, they do a lot of work and should get the credit,” said Rostislavovich.
