Town and Country Garden Club

Members of the New Richland Town and Country Garden Club took part in a mutual learning exercise the afternoon of Aug. 4, with members Julie Economy, Barb Finseth, Eleanor Schlaak and Sheryl Schanil inviting club members to visit their gardens and exchange information and insights about the various plants.

 

A garden stone among Finseth’s flowers claimed “As the garden grows, so grows the gardener.” The statement seemed like a possible theme for the day as club members offered identifications and shared their own experiences surrounding various plants and insects–both those a gardener wishes to encourage and those they hope to eliminate.

 

In addition to viewing one another’s gardens, discussing the growing season and how it affected their success, and learning from one another’s creative displays, the group enjoyed supper together at Schanil’s home.

 

During conversation, group members stated their appreciation for the chance to see and learn from one another’s work, saying that being present in the gardens during the exchange allowed for much richer understanding.
