Reminiscing in Rome

Well, we have survived our trip. 

 

We got back last Thursday, after spending about 11 hours on a plane and almost 24 hours awake. It was quite nice to finally be back in our own bed, although we were only there for one night because the next day we started dogsitting for Jack’s family friends. 

 

Anywho, Rome was great. We arrived at noon on Monday and spent the next two full days exploring the city and taking it all in. Let me just say, after a handful of days walking entire cities and getting around 30,000 steps a day, my body was pretty tired by the end. Jack’s feet hurt so bad that he started taking the Lime scooters or bikes on the last day where our–or at least my–walks were longer than an hour. 

 

But we were able to do everything there was to do in Rome: visit the coliseum (including the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum), see the Trevi fountain and Pantheon, visit St. Peter’s Basilica and Vatican Museum in Vatican city, tour a castle, and even visit some religious crypts. 

 

On top of that was the delicious food—pizza eaten with a fork and knife, lasagna, pasta with a farmyard mix of meat sauce (duck, rabbit, and chicken), tiramisu, lots of gelato, and the daily necessary cappuccino. 

 

While I had visited Italy before, it was nice to be back and reminisce while also experiencing new things. I had never visited the castle in Rome, taken a homemade pasta class, or even seen St. Peter’s Basilica. 

 

During the trip we talked about the next place we’d like to travel to. It sounds like we better start planning soon, because there was just about nowhere we didn’t want to go. Jack has agreed to let me be his guide in Spain, and I want to visit Ireland, Germany, or Scotland next. He would like to go to someplace in Asia, so I guess we’ll see who wins that conversation. I better practice my rock-paper-scissors game in the meantime. 

 

Also a fun event in the life of Amelia is that I got to attend the Vikings and Broncos preseason game on August 28! While Jack wasn’t quite happy with me wearing my purple and gold jersey, I had a blast as it was my first time actually seeing the Vikings play a game. 

 

Needless to say, we’ve been busy and I could use a break (from the break).
