Marketplace Ribbon Cutting

About 50 people attended a ribbon cutting celebration Wednesday, Sept. 23, for Waseca’s new Marketplace Commons apartment building located along 19th Avenue NW across from the Junior Senior High School. Construction on the project began last October; leasing began on Sept. 15.

Visitors toured the two sizes of apartments in the building–one and two bedrooms–and stopped by the shared patio and “community room” available to residents.

As the ribbon was cut, Chris Kennelly of TREKK Properties expressed gratitude to the community of Waseca and city and county leaders for their support of the project. “Five years ago, we began investigating the possibilities for a building like this one,” he said. “Thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of investors, and the support of local leaders, we found an avenue to make it a reality.

“This has truly been a partnership between public and private entities.” He named the Waseca City Council, the County Board of Commissioners, the City Economic Development Authority, the Waseca Area Foundation and the Waseca Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism as having been particularly supportive.

Kennelly emphasized that most of the contractors hired to complete various phases of the construction are local. “Our goal was to benefit the community in all the ways we could.”

Goals for the layout and appearance of the facility, he said, included creating a middle- to upper-middle class atmosphere with an elevator;  appealing, durable flooring and paint colors; and an inviting vaulted entry, along with the shared outdoor and indoor spaces where larger groups can gather. The building has security cameras both indoors and out, and locked exterior doors which residents can open with a fob or code. Mail and packages will be delivered to a central, secure receiving area.

All apartments have in-unit washers and dryers, individual 2-gig fiber internet, and outdoor access–either a ground-level patio or a balcony.

Property manager Ruby Rodriguez shares that about half of the building’s 36 units are already spoken for, with one one-bedroom and 17 two-bedroom units still available.

Maximum occupancy is two people per bedroom, with pets up to 60 pounds allowed, preferably on the first floor.

Monthly rent for a one-bedroom unit is $1,350 a month; for two bedrooms it is $1,800 a month. Lower rates are available for those with qualifying incomes.

Rent includes water, sewer, and trash collection. Residents must pay separately for electricity, gas, internet and, if acquired, cable.

More information about the facility and its amenities is available either by calling Rodriguez during regular business hours at 507-461-8622 or by visiting the Marketplace Commons website.
