BUILDING THE FUTURE - The Waseca Area Learning Center celebrated the launch of its new XRP Robotics Program for students to explore technology, coding, and robotics.

Waseca ALC launches new XRP robotics program

The Waseca Area Learning Center (ALC) recently celebrated the launch of its new XRP Robotics Program, creating exciting opportunities for students to explore technology, coding, robotics, and future career pathways.

Made possible through a RESEPI grant, the program provides students with hands-on experience using real robotics technology while developing skills that can transfer directly into college, technical education, and the workplace. Students will have opportunities to explore BLOCK-based programming, Mini Python coding, robotics design and programming, problem-solving, and career exploration.

The XRP Robotics program is designed to give students an opportunity to learn by doing. Instead of simply reading about technology, students can build, program, test, troubleshoot, and improve their own robotic systems. This type of hands-on learning encourages creativity, persistence, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

Building Skills for the Future
One of the most important benefits of the program is its connection to career exploration. Students can begin to see how skills developed through robotics connect to careers in areas such as technology, engineering, manufacturing, automation, programming, skilled trades, and other growing industries.

The program also supports the development of Waseca's local talent pipeline. By introducing students to technology and career opportunities while they are still in school, the community can help students recognize potential career pathways close to home and better understand the skills local employers are seeking.

The XRP robots also provide a flexible learning environment where students can practice skills, make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, and try again. This creates opportunities for students to build confidence while developing technical and workplace skills.

How XRP Robotics Will Help Our School
The XRP robots will become a valuable hands-on learning tool at Waseca ALC. They can be used to:

Provide real-world STEM and technology experiences.

Teach programming through BLOCK coding and Mini Python.

Develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Encourage teamwork, communication, and collaboration.

Connect classroom learning to real workplace applications.

Provide opportunities for career exploration.

Increase student engagement through hands-on learning.

Give students experience with emerging technology.

Help students develop skills that can transfer to future employment and education.

Create connections between students, local businesses, higher education, and the community.

The program also provides students with an opportunity to discover strengths and interests they may not have known they possessed. A student who begins by building or programming a robot may discover an interest in engineering, computer science, manufacturing, automation, or another career field.

A Community Effort
Waseca ALC extends special thanks to Eric Hudspeth Waseca Superintendent, Tom Sexton Minnesota House Representative, Members of the Waseca School Board Mandi Nohner WALC Principal, Brooke McGuire Director of Teaching and Learning, Brian Hering Director of Technology Systems, Travis Thule of Minnesota State University, Mankato, Gwenn Wolters of SCSC, Travis Foss of Digi-Key for their support and partnership, and the RECEPI grant program. Thanks to our industry partners, especially Winegar Inc. of Waseca. Together, we are empowering students to explore new possibilities, develop future-ready skills, and help build a stronger community and workforce.

These partnerships demonstrate what can happen when schools, higher education, businesses, and community organizations work together to create meaningful opportunities for students.

The XRP Robotics program represents more than a new piece of technology for Waseca ALC. It is an investment in students, career exploration, innovation, and the future workforce of the Waseca community.
