Diane Bluhm

Diane Elizabeth (Lortis) Bluhm, age 90, of  Waldorf, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Mankato.

Diane was born on June 13, 1936, in Waseca, to Archie and Dorothy (Clarke) Lortis. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waseca. Diane graduated from Waseca High School in 1954, and from the Kahler School of Nursing in 1957, where she began a lifelong career dedicated to caring for others. She continued her education at Mankato State University and received an Associate of Science degree in 1981.

On May 18, 1958, Diane married the love of her life, Barton Edward Bluhm, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waseca. Together they built a loving home, family and shared many happy years before Bart's passing.

Throughout her career, Diane worked as a nurse at Wells Hospital, with Head Start and at Medi-Rental in Mankato. She later shared her knowledge and passion for healthcare as an instructor of medical terminology at Minnesota State University.

Family was the center of Diane's life. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and especially cherished the special bond she shared with her great-grandson, Colten. Diane enjoyed teaching and delighted in her student interactions. She embraced life’s simple pleasures and enjoyed music, embroidery, fishing, gardening, baking, cheering on the Minnesota Twins and all the special times she had with family and friends. Diane’s life was a reminder that the simplest things often bring the greatest joy.

A devoted member of her church community, Diane served as a choir director, Ladies Aide member, and Sunday School teacher. She was also proud to be a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Diane is survived by her children, Lisa (Todd) Gray of San Francisco, CA, Stacy Bluhm of Plymouth, Justin (Stacy) Bluhm of Waseca; grandchildren, Emma, Rylee, Reagan, Toni; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Archie "Buzz" (Bernie) Lortis of St. Paul; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barton Bluhm; parents, Archie and Dorothy Lortis; and granddaughter, Chelsey Bluhm.

Funeral service for Diane will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at First Lutheran Cemetery in Waldorf.
