Catherine “Kate” Mary Hansen

Catherine “Kate” Mary (Seys) Hansen, age 99 of Waterville, passed away on June 15, 2025 at Whispering Creek Nursing Home in Janesville.

 

Kate was born in St. Clair on August 15, 1925 to parents Hector and Mary Ellen Seys.  She attended school in Le Center.  She was married to Raymond Hansen on July 6, 1945, and they celebrated 73 years of marriage before Ray passed away in 2018.  Catherine and Raymond dedicated their life to taking into their home many family members and foster children in addition to five daughters of their own.  Catherine stayed on the family farm after Raymond’s death. She kept busy feeding chickens, cats, and birds.  The Hering brothers took over farming the land and checking on Catherine and Sarah after Ray’s passing, and the family would like to offer their thanks for all their help and friendship over the years.  They would also like to extend their gratitude to the residents and staff at Whispering Creek Nursing home in Janesville for the devoted care they showed to Catherine.

 

Catherine is survived by four daughters, Cheryl (Paul) Armendariz of Janesville, Kathleen (Vern) Powell of Waterville, Patricia (Dave) Gertz of Waterville, and Sarah Hansen of Waseca.  Other extended family includes  sister-in-law, Betty Schaal; Teresa (Gordy) Ferch, Gordon and Dorothy Hinderscheit, Alfred (Pat) Hinderscheit, Bernie (Bob) Mackey, Rose Hinderscheit, Shelly Radloff, and Kay Radloff.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Susan; a granddaughter, Tracy Rae; and all of her siblings.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025 at the Waterville Evangelical United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kathy King officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Interment will be at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville with a luncheon to follow at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Waterville Evangelical Methodist Church.  Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waterville is handling the arrangements.  dsofuneral.com
