Sharon Lynn Kalis, age 80, of Waldorf, died on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Born on April 14, 1942, in Waseca to Marvin and Florence (Sereda) Kalis. She grew up on the farm in rural Waldorf and attended Waldorf Public School graduating with the class of 1960. Sharon was engaged to be married to Bill Walburn in the late 1960’s. Bill passed away due to a medical condition prior to the wedding. Although Sharon was never a biological mother, she loved her nieces: Tasha, Cortney, MacKenzie, and Annalesha; nephews: Travis and Jerrick; great-niece, Scarlett; and great-nephew, William like they were her own. She never missed wishing them all happy birthday, sending cards for birthdays and all holidays.
Sharon worked many years at E.F. Johnson Company in Waseca along with waitressing at several restaurants in Waseca before moving home to the family farm to care for her parents. She was quick to help out and frequently chauffeured Tasha, Jerrick and Annalesha to school events. Sharon’s love for animals began at a young age when she had her first pet pig. Any animal that showed up to the farm never went hungry, but dogs held a special place in her heart especially her brother’s and niece’s dachshunds: Samantha, Beamer and Mercedes. Sharon was an avid sports fan whether it was the Vikings, Twins, Wild or Timberwolves, she followed them all. She knew all of the players and could rattle off statistics along with where many of them came from. When one of her teams would lose, she would turn off the radio and swear that she would never listen to another game again, but you could bet she would be listening again the very next day. In her later years, Sharon became homebound due to losing her sight. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf.
Sharon is survived by her brothers: Wayne (Tamra) Kalis of Elysian and Terry (Jerilyn) Kalis of Waldorf; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; fiancé; brothers: Richard (Diane) Kalis, and Carroll “Marvin” (Helen) Kalis; sister, LaDonna (Clarence) Wenthold; and nephew, Mark Kalis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf. Burial will be at St. Joseph Community Cemetery in Waldorf. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
