Stanley Rosenau

Stanley  “Stan’ Wilbert Rosenau, aged 96 of Waseca, entered his heavenly home on Monday, June 12, 2023 from Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna.

Born in Waseca County on April 15, 1927, Stan was the son of George and Emma (Lueck) Rosenau. Stan graduated from Concordia Prep School in St. Paul and married his beloved bride, Marion Kodada at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault on June 24, 1951.  He graduated from

Concordia Seminary in Springfield, MO in 1953  and was ordained into the ministry at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Canada where he served for eight years.

Throughout his ministry he served congregations at Good Shepherd Lutheran, Hudson Bay, SK; Zion Lutheran Mistatim, Sk; St. John Lutheran in Arlington, MN; Centennial Lutheran in Henderson, MN; St. John Lutheran in Ord, NE; Zion Lutheran in Scotia, NE; Peace Lutheran in Glidden, IA; St. Paul Lutheran in Sidney, NE; Trinity Lutheran -Wilton in Waseca; Immanuel Lutheran- Freedom in Janesville, MN;  St. Paul-Midway in Battle Creek, IA; and Bethany Lutheran in Wabasso, MN. After retirement, he served as visitation Pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Janesville, MN. He was a  previous member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville and is currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran in Waseca where he was baptized and confirmed in the faith. He served in many capacities including circuit counselor and fundraising co-chair with AAL. He had a special zeal for missions and together with his wife, Marion, sponsored many young seminarians and missionaries.

Stanley was a consummate seeker of the lost, famously visiting the unchurched bringing many to faith in Christ. His love for people combined with fishing made for epic Canadian fishing trips. He taught all his kids the mark of a good fisherman was how fast you can get your fish off the hook, rebait and get your line back in the water. It occasionally meant throwing the fish back with the spreader still in its mouth. The only thing that would get it him off the boat early, was playing cards. Any friend of Stan’s would be recruited to play cards, including  kids and grandkids. If they didn’t know the game, he’d teach it.

Stan is survived by his four children, Paul (Tammy) Rosenau of Prior Lake, Cindy (Don) Anderson of Boise, ID, James (Colette) Rosenau of Sturgis, SD, and John (Darla) Rosenau of Kiron, IA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene (Elmer) Elsner of Owatonna and sister-in-law Eileen (Kodada) Thone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife; one daughter in infancy, Geraldine Grace; one Great-Granddaughter, Makayla Pike; four brothers Milford, Gordon, Russell and George; and one sister Grace Perizzo.

Stan will be remembered by his large circle of extended family and friends, including Al and Sherrye Kuchenbecker who were truest of friends.

Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca, and continued for one hour before services at the church on Thursday. 

Funeral Services were held Thursday, June 15, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca. Rev. Mark Rosenau and Rev. Bob Lund officiated.  Interment followed at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  dsofuneral.com
