Braves season ends at state

The season ended for the Waseca Braves amateur baseball team with a 4-2 loss to Brownton in the opening round of the Class C state tournament at the Mini-Met in Jordan.

 

"It was a tough loss," said Braves coach Tink Larson. "I was confident going into the game, and when we went up 2-0 after two innings, and with Tyson Reger on the mound, I felt even better about our chances."

 

But Brownton rallied, scoring four unanswered runs.

 

"Our offense went dead after the second inning, as we had only three baserunners the rest of the game," said Larson.

 

An oddity in the scoring was Brownton scoring three of its four runs on sacrifice flies.

 

After losing the first three games of the season, the Braves went 14-6 the rest of the way. They finished the season with a 14-9 win-loss record.

 

"We had a lot of young players in the lineup this year, and we hope they continue to improve," said Larson, who added, "Obviously, it was a disappointment to lose, but we had a great year with winning the region tournament and getting to the state tournament for the first time in 10 years."
