Grizzlies’ Kuball, Murphy take gold at Norwood-YA

The WEM-JWP Grizzlies had a busy week after winter break. They lost two of three matches at a quadrangular at Sibley East Thursday, Jan. 5. The following Saturday, they traveled to Norwood-Young America for an invitational.
St. Peter, the largest school in the quadrangular, easily defeated the Grizzlies 57-16. Only Brady Murphy, Carson Petry, Jack Cahill, and Keegan Kuball were victorious. Murphy won by fal.
Their match against the hosting Wolverines was much better as they took a 51-23 victory. Murphy at 106 again won by fall. After Sibley East earned 17 straight points, Zach Quast and Kelton Erler collected wins by forfeit, giving WEM-JWP the lead again.
From there, outside of a win by fall for the Wolverines, WEM-JWP won every match. Lucas Morsching at 152 won 2-0, Avery Fall at 195 won by fall, and Max Davis overwhelmed Gavriel Godinez in the heavyweight matchup in 4:23. Maddox Moreno, Jack Cahill, and Keegan Kuball won by forfeit.
The best dual of the night was against Tri-City United. Murphy made his night perfect with a 16-1 technical fall. After Parker James at 113 fell short, Petry took a win by technical fall. Collecting other wins for WEM-JWP was Morsching at 145, Isaac Quast at 160, and Moreno at 170 (in 20 seconds). Fall and Kuball had wins by forfeit, making it 37-36 Grizzlies. The dual was decided between Max Davis and Marco Reyes. The 285-pounders duked it out, but Davis fell in 1:05, making it a 42-37 victory for TCU.
