Lopez leads Waseca gymnasts past St. Peter

It's mid-January and the Waseca High School gymnastics team is rolling.
The Bluejays traveled to St. James Friday, Jan. 13 and dominated a dual meet, winning 126.175-97.5. The junior varsity prevailed 111.4-52.5.
Angelica Lopez amassed 128 points to take the all-around title and lead a Bluejay barrage in all-around. Macy Anderson was second at 26.3, Addison Zimmerman third at 26, Avery Carda fourth with 22. Following for Waseca were Noah Schimming, fifth, 20.55; Kara Doyle, sixth, 14.2; Ines Sanchez, seventh, 11.85; and Maddie Root, eighth, 11.0.
Waseca swept all four events, with Carda edging Schimming 8.35-8.2 on vault. Tying for third were Zimmerman and Lopez at 7.9. Doyle was fourth at 7.7. Macy Anderson tied a St. James athlete for fifth at 7.5
The Bluejays were even more dominant on the uneven parallel bars, sweeping the top six spots. Winning was Lopez at 7.0, followed by Doyle, 6.5; Macy Anderson, 4.6; Zimmerman, 4.3; Maddie Root, 4.0; and Miley Anderson, 3.3.
Macy Anderson led the way on the balance beam with a 7.4, with Weber second at 7.2. Root was third at 7.0, Carda fourth at 6.8, Zimmerman fifth, 6.6; Lopez sixth, 6.4; Sanchez seventh, 6.0; and Schimming ninth, 5.4.
Lopez turned in a 7.25 to narrowly eclipse Zimmerman's 7.5 on floor exercise. Carda and Zimmerman tied for third at 6.85. Others: Macy Anderson, fourth, 6.8; Sanchez, fifth. 5.85.
The Bluejays compete Saturday in the Kasson-Mantorville Invitational starting at 11 a.m.
