NRHEG girls take care of Maple River

It didn't go as coach Onika Peterson would have planned, but it was a win. Another win for the NRHEG girls' basketball team.
The Panthers remained unbeaten in Gopher Conference play at 4-0 and improved their overall record to 7-1 after defeating Maple River 56-42 at Mapleton Friday, Jan. 6.
"We are happy to get a win out of the Christmas break," said Peterson. "It wasn’t the prettiest game with missed bunny baskets, some forced passes and shots, but it improved as the night went on.
And Peterson, whose squad held a 28-21 halftime lead, wasn't expecting a cakewalk.
"Maple River is a tough opponent, said Peterson. "We are expecting a competitive game the second time around at home."
Individually for the Panthers: Faith Nielsen 1 point, 4 rebounds, 1 blocked shot; Quinn VanMaldeghem 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal; Erin Jacobson 14 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal; Gabby Schlaak 1 rebound; Hallie Schultz 4 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist; Sidney Schultz 25 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 6 assists; Camryn VanMaldeghem 7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals.
The Panthers have a busy week scheduled, hosting Medford Jan. 10, entertaining WEM Jan. 13 and traveling to Kasson to face Dover-Eyota Jan. 14.
