Don't drink and do stupid things

I was awoken at 2 a.m. Saturday morning to the sounds of screeching tires and brakes. A minivan had stopped behind my apartment and lights were shining into my apartment. A few minutes later, the vehicle parked in my neighbor's driveway.

 

After calming down I was almost back to sleep when I started hearing yelling and banging from outside.

 

I walked to my window and could see a man circling the same minivan. Moments later, the intoxicated, shirtless man opened the front door and began trying to tear the front doors off the vehicle. With much force he tried to rip the doors off in the opposite direction a door normally opens.

 

The doors were resilient and it wasn’t long before a neighbor yelled at him to be quiet. He didn’t stop.

 

I went back, and after hearing more yelling, I called Waseca County Dispatch to report the unhinged man.

 

After a brief phone call, I hung up, but had to call back moments later after I heard a large “crash.”

 

The man had smashed out the back windows of the minivan. I told the operator things were escalating as three other people now arrived. They appeared to be “talking sense into the man.”

 

I’m told all of this happened because of “too much liquid courage” and “a girl.”

 

I applaud the County Sheriff’s office as it only took them 12 minutes to respond. I am disappointed the NR Police didn’t have an officer on duty, but regardless I would have strongly suggested more than one officer respond, so I think the point is softened. 

 

From there, I was able to go back to sleep. I didn’t hear another word until the morning when I walked outside and saw familiar faces standing outside my neighbor's place.

 

I learned later that the shirtless man was turned down by a woman and felt he needed to ‘prove he was a man’ by damaging his own vehicle. I don’t understand.

 

I’m glad everyone is okay.

 

And I’m more glad the sheriff's office responded quickly and effectively.
