Farm and City Day ramblings

I am sitting here writing this at the conclusion of Farm and City Days. It was another packed weekend. The car show included more cars than ever before. During the nightcap Saturday, I lost count of the number of people who commented about the band. By all accounts, it appears to have been a hit. (Even though I didn’t know all of the songs.)
The kids’ tractor pull was bigger than ever too. That takes a lot of dedication.
Running around Saturday I was reminded of many things. That, and talking with the new Farm and City Day’s Committee member, Jennifer Weber (Kristi Harrington’s sister), brought back a lot of memories too.
Jennifer wanted to know how I thought Farm and City Days could be made even better. The only thing I could think to mention was the carnival/fair; it’s a fond memory of mine that we used to have rides like a ferris wheel or “scrambler.” I enjoyed those games and rides every year and really looked forward to them when I was a child. I understand it costs money and insurance and all of that. But that was my answer. I’m not complaining: As an adult, I wouldn’t ride the rides, and I don’t know if I would play the games. Where I am today, I enjoy the weekend every year. It’s something I look forward to.
Last year I asked someone why we couldn’t do this sort of thing more often. The answer I got back was, “Then it wouldn’t be special.”
This year someone asked me that same question. Because then it wouldn’t be special.
Speaking of special, I’d like to thank the Farm and City Days committee, the fire department, the police department, ambulance staff, Lions Club, and all of the other volunteers and persons who helped put this weekend together. I, for one, was a very happy camper.
As for my newsing in Waseca this week, you’ll just have to read the paper. I can’t tell you, but I’m fairly certain the majority of the stories this week were reader requested. Which meant many, many phone calls and messages to respond to.
We set up for the fair Tuesday and Wednesday. Please stop down and see us!
And for those asking, we are set to move into the new office by the end of the month.
